HIM 2820 - Professional Practice Experience II


Credits: 3

Prerequisites: HIM 2800  with a grade of “C” or higher.
This course and virtual lab provides a supervised practicum at a hospital or alternative healthcare setting. The course will focus on assisting the student to begin integration into the HIT field by exploring health information technology duties and interaction with a variety of departments. The PPE activities conducted will assist the student to enter the HIT field. The course will introduce the student to preparation for the Registered Health Information Technician national examination by the American Health Information Management Association. Lab fee. Traveling day and/or evening may be required. Students will be responsible for completion of virtual lab assignments, healthcare organization tours and orientation, and/or pre-determined individual student internships. Activities may include NEFHIMA/FHIMA conferences.
