PCB 3103 - Cell Biology Credits: 3
Prerequisites: BSC 2011, BSC 2011L, BCH 4052, and BCH 4052L with a grade of “C” or higher. Corequisite: PCB 3103L This course is a study of cell structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, with emphasis on intracellular processes. Structure and functions of the different sub-cellular components are covered. Topics include exocytosis, endocytosis, membrane transport, the cytoskeleton, protein targeting, organelle structure and function, protein sorting, motility, and cell-to-cell interactions. Significant emphasis is placed on the process of signal transduction and cellular functions that are required for cell growth and programmed cell death, as well as how perturbations in these processes can result in human diseases.
