SON 1804 - Clinical Education I Credits: 3
Prerequisites: SON 1000 , SON 1113 , SON 1211 , SON 1111 , and SON 1111L with a grade of “C” or higher. This course continues to build on clinical instruction in abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, and vascular scanning protocols. Patient care, the role and duties of the sonographer in the health care environment and instruction in the use of various types of ultrasound equipment will be discussed. Students receive instruction and guidance in producing quality sonographic images and the parameters used to evaluate the images throughout their clinical rotations. This course requires the student to spend two days a week in an approved ultrasound department. Students will perform a variety of exams and procedures under the supervision of the designated clinical instructor. Students are given specific learning objectives for the rotation. Progress is evaluated according to a competency-based clinical education system.
