AML 2601 - African-American Literature I


Credits: 3

Prerequisites: ENC 1102  with a grade of “C” or higher.
A survey of African American literature that focuses on selected writings, speeches, narratives, poetry, folklore, fiction, short stories, novels, sermons, music lyrics, spirituals, drama, essays, protest writings, film and literacy criticism of African American writers. Emphasizes terminology and literary constructs necessary for the students to read and understand text materials and written dialogues of African American writers. The development of appropriate skills and techniques enabling students to critically review and analyze written works, such as narrative, poetry, short story, novel etc. are stressed continually. AML 2601 is a Gordon Rule writing course as defined by SBE Rule 6A-10.030.
