The College awards the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biological Sciences. The Bachelor of Science in Biological Science program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of biology, including molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological. Through rigorous coursework and laboratory experiences, the program fosters critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills. Graduates will be prepared to pursue advanced studies or careers in biological research, healthcare, education, environmental science, biotechnology, and related fields.
The BS degree will require a total of 120 semester credits and be a 2+2 program articulating from the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. All applicants will be required to have an earned Associate degree prior to admission to include a total of 36 credits of general education coursework and 24 baccalaureate prerequisite and elective credits. The required prerequisite coursework will align with Florida’s Common Prerequisite Manual and will also be completed before being admitted into the program.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice - Applied Intelligence Studies
The College awards the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice - Applied Intelligence Studies. This program prepares students for employment throughout the criminal justice system at all levels of government (local, state, and federal) and related private sector fields. The program focuses on intelligence studies, encouraging critical thinking and criminal analysis for law enforcement, criminal investigations, evidence gathering, and crime prevention purposes. Building on an analytical foundation, students will assess present-day concerns related to the criminal justice field through theoretical perspectives and advanced technologies. In addition to preparing graduates for work as intelligence analysts, this program will provide current law enforcement and corrections officers with preparation for leadership roles within their agencies.
The BS degree will require 120 semester credits and provide articulation pathways from the Associate in Science (AS) in Criminal Justice Technology and the Associate in Arts (AA) degrees. To earn the BS degree, students will complete a total of 36 credits of general education courses; 18 credits of foundational
lower-division coursework in criminology, criminal justice, software applications, policing, and criminal and constitutional law; 24 credits of lower-division electives; and 42 upper-division credits in Criminal Justice focusing on ethics, criminal investigations, criminal intelligence, evidence and legal procedures, research and analytical products, use of technology, computer crime investigations and criminal activity conducted through technology systems.
Applicants who have completed the AA degree must complete the lower-division foundational coursework, if they have not already done so, and may use any other AA coursework as lower-division electives. Applicants who have completed the AS degree, including those who have completed basic law enforcement or corrections academies, will have completed all lower-division foundational credits, lower-division elective credits, and 18 of the 36 general education credits and must complete the remaining general education requirements during their baccalaureate studies. In addition, the 42 upper- division credits in Criminal Justice will be required of all students.

The College awards the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Early Childhood Education with ESOL and Reading Endorsements. This program prepares future educators to effectively teach prekindergarten/primary education (ages 3 to grade 3). The curriculum for the Early Childhood Education degree includes coursework in the foundations of education, ESOL, reading education, and early childhood education, in addition to multiple opportunities for student field experience in kindergarten-3rd grade classrooms. Students will explore topics related to the education of young children including literacy, classroom management, teaching methods, cognition, creativity, and technology throughout the program. Graduates will earn Florida state certification in PreK/Primary Education along with endorsements in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Reading.
Bachelor program prerequisites will include an Associate in Arts (AA) degree and one teacher education course, EDF 2005 (Introduction to the Teaching Profession). All applicants will be required to have earned an Associate in Arts (AA) degree prior to admission to include a total of 36 credits of general education coursework and 24 baccalaureate prerequisite and elective credits. The required prerequisite coursework will align with Florida’s Common Prerequisite Manual, and a passing score on two of the four sections on the General Knowledge Test (GK) of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) will also be completed before being admitted into the program.
After admission, students will be required to complete a total of 60 upper division credits in Classroom Management, Instructional Strategies, Reading, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Early Childhood Education. The curriculum will ensure that candidates and completers are prepared to instruct prekindergarten through grade 3 students to meet high standards for academic achievement. Multiple field experience placements will be required, culminating in a semester-long (12 weeks) teaching internship. Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
The College awards the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Nursing. The program is designed for Associate degree registered nurses who hold a current valid, and unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the United States and seek advanced studies in nursing. The BSN program will provide traditional and nontraditional registered nurse students with access to a baccalaureate degree. The BSN degree curriculum fosters personal and professional growth through traditional and non- traditional learning experiences to facilitate the educational advancement of the registered nurse. The BSN program seeks to further amplify the student’s safe and effective patient care practices and to prepare students for careers that positively affect health care within their communities. The BSN curriculum builds on the competencies, knowledge, and practices that the students bring from previous academic nursing programs and work experiences, and the curriculum expands on professional nursing values resulting in a broader scope of professional practice and professional role identity.
The program consists of 120 credit hours of general education nursing-related core courses.

The College awards the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Social and Human Services. This program will provide students with the knowledge and skills to successfully enter the workforce. The program will include foundational lower division coursework as well as upper division coursework focused on specific skills required by human services occupations. Coursework will develop students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, preparing them to assist, coordinate, and supervise programs and organizations that support public well-being. Students will also learn foundational skills and techniques for individual and family relationships and substance abuse counselling.
The BS degree will require a total of 120 semester credits and be a 2+2 program articulating from the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. All applicants will be required to have an earned Associate degree prior to admission to include a total of 36 credits of general education coursework and 24 baccalaureate prerequisite and elective credits. In alignment with similar degrees in the state of Florida as articulated in Florida’s Common Prerequisite Manual, the degree will have no specified prerequisite coursework for admission.
Applicants who have completed the AA degree must complete the lower-division foundational coursework, if they have not already done so, and may use any other AA coursework as lower division electives. Applicants who have completed the AS degree, including those who have completed basic law enforcement or corrections academies, will have completed all lower-division foundational credits, lower-division elective credits, and 18 of the 36 general education credits and must complete the remaining general education requirements during their baccalaureate studies. The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Digital Art and Media program equips students with advanced skills and creative expertise for careers in the growing fields of digital design, visual communication, animation, and game design. The curriculum emphasizes upper-level courses in digital design, imaging, photography, video production, 3D animation, and motion graphics, preparing students for the dynamic demands of the digital arts industry.
This degree is a 2+2 program articulating from the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science in Visual Art degree. Once admitted, A.A. students will complete 18 credit hours of required lower division program core courses. A.S. students will complete 18 credit hours of lower-division general education coursework.
All students will complete an additional 42 credit hours of upper-division courses for a total degree length of 120 semester hours.
The BAS in Digital Art and Media combines in-person and online courses.

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Information Systems Technology degree provides students with the skills required to successfully design, plan, implement, and manage Computer and Information Systems. Students will receive instruction in computer architecture, programming, and systems analysis; networking; telecommunications; cryptography; security system auditing and design; applicable law and regulations; risk assessment and policy analysis; contingency planning; user access issues; investigation techniques; and troubleshooting.
This program uses a 2+2 model requiring the completion of an associate degree or higher with 60 transferable credits from an accredited 4-year college or university for entry into the program.

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Organizational Management degree provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce or advance in a mid-management level position. The program will prepare students for careers within the public, private, and non-profit sectors. A practical approach with real-world applications of skills and knowledge will be used to gain an understanding of leadership issues involved in the operations of a business organization. Coursework is designed to broaden students’ knowledge in applied management practices and prepare students for leadership opportunities within their chosen field.
This program uses a 2+2 model requiring the completion of an associate degree or higher with 60 transferable credits from an accredited 4-year college or university for entry into the program.

The Bachelor of Applied Sciences (BAS) in Performance Design and Production program equips students with the skills to produce content for live performance and production. This bachelor’s degree provides a diversification of technical skills necessary for students to produce a live production utilizing the specialized skills gained with hands on learning.
This degree is a 2+2 program articulating from the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree or Associate in Science (A.S.) in Technical Theatre degree. Once admitted, A.A. students will complete 18 credit hours of required lower division program core courses. A.S. students will complete 18 credit hours of lower-division general education coursework. All students will complete an additional 42 credit hours of upper-division courses for a total degree length of 120 semester credit hours.

The foreign language competency requirement can be met by completion of two years of the same high school foreign language or completion of two semesters of the same college level foreign language or documented proficiency of a foreign language. If you did not complete two years of the same high school foreign language and do not have documented proficiency of a foreign language, you will need to complete two semesters of college level foreign language in order to graduate with your Bachelor’s degree. These foreign language credits will count towards your required general education elective and/or baccalaureate transfer program prerequisites/elective credit hours. Please check with your Academic Advisor or Workforce Advisor if you are unsure whether you already meet this requirement.
Native speakers of languages other than English may petition to waive the foreign language coursework requirement. Native speakers who are able to demonstrate they completed part of their education in a non-English educational system should complete and submit the foreign language coursework waiver petition with proof of enrollment in a foreign language high school in which the language of instruction was not English for a specific, prolonged period of concurrent academic years, generally to include at a minimum the completion of at least three years of formal schooling. Additional documentation may be requested at the discretion of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Native speakers without proof of foreign education have the following options:
- If the language is currently offered by St. Johns River State College, the student may petition to complete a campus-based proficiency examination by a qualified SJR State foreign language faculty member
- If the language is not currently offered by St. Johns River State College and there are no faculty on staff who can evaluate that language, students have these options:
- Submit proof of proficiency in the language through a recognized, standardized test such as CLEP;
- Provide alternative documentation concerning their language proficiency to be approved at the discretion of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, or
- Complete the foreign language requirement in another language

Civic Literacy Requirement - All Baccalaureate Degrees
Baccalaureate degree-seeking students initially entering a Florida College System institution fall semester 2021 or thereafter must demonstrate competency in civic literacy, to include demonstration of the following competencies:
- Understanding of the basic principles and practices of American democracy and how they are applied in our republican form of government;
- An understanding of the United States Constitution and its application;
- Knowledge of the founding documents and how they have shaped the nature and functions of our institutions of self-government; and
- An understanding of landmark Supreme Court cases, landmark legislation and landmark executive actions and their impact on law and society.
- Demonstrating competency of civic literacy is met by both earning credit for one of the approved courses and passing one of the approved courses and passing one of the approved assessments prior to graduation:

- POS 1041 - United States Federal Government
- AMH 2010 - United States History to 1877
- AMH 2020 - United States History since 1877
- AP Government and Politics: United States (minimum score 3)

Completion of an approved course does not waive the requirement of successfully passing one of the approved assessments, nor does successfully passing one of the approved assessments waive the requirement of successfully passing the approved course, with the following exception: the indicated minimum score on the AP Government and Politics: United States; AP US History; CLEP American Government; or CLEP History of the United States I. These assessments meet both the civic literacy course and the civic literacy assessment requirements.

All candidates for a degree must complete the minimum number of hours specified for the degree. A minimum of 30 credits of upper division (i.e., 3000 - 4000 level) semester credit hours must be completed at SJR State.
- Candidates for the Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and the Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education (K-12) must have a 2.5 minimum overall GPA. Candidates for the other bachelor’s degrees must have a 2.0 minimum overall GPA.
- A senior year capstone course is required for the following:

- BSN students are allowed to transfer up to nine (9) credits of upper-level BSN courses as long as the minimum requirement of completing 25% of the total program hours at SJR State can be met. Students are required to complete NUR 3169 and NUR 4949 at SJR State.
- All degree candidates must complete all general education requirements and successfully demonstrate college-level proficiency in communication and computation. A grade of “C” or higher is required for those courses meeting the area requirements in English, humanities, and mathematics.
- All degree candidates must have completed two years of the same high school foreign language OR two semesters of college level foreign language OR documented proficiency of a foreign language. Students who did not take two years of the same high school foreign language and do not have documented proficiency of a foreign language, will need to complete two semesters of college level foreign language in order to graduate.
- All candidates must pay all fees and discharge all other obligations to the College.
- All candidates must file an application for a degree and meet all degree requirements by the last date of the term in which they plan to graduate.
